In Pursuit of Wealth

I know someone who has invested in property and is now a millionaire, yet he still works in a job he doesn't particularly like.

Why would he work in a job he doesn't like when he's got millions in the bank?

Because my friend is not a Pound Sterling millionaire, he's a Baht millionaire. In other words, while he's considered to be very wealthy in Thailand, his money doesn't have much value in the UK. That's why he has to work.

There is a TV programme I sometimes watch called The Antiques Roadshow where people bring their antiques to be valued by the experts. In the last show I watched, after this woman had her antique, she had bought for a £1, valued, she ended up selling the object for £20,000; that's a whopping 20,000% profit! Obviously the person who had got rid of the object hadn't thought it had any value otherwise he wouldn't have sold it.

Is there any point pursuing wealth when we can't agree on what things are worth?

I have to admit that I've always wanted to be wealthy as I was sick of being poor and working in a job I didn't even enjoy just to barely get by. I knew there had to be another way of being. Why not try the way of the Spirit that I've heard so much about? I believe the way of the Spirit is rather like having your own personal genie that can not only fulfil any wish you have, it is very happy to do so.

The spiritual path is a quest to find that genie. After searching high and low for many years you finally realise that the reason why you can't find the genie anywhere is because the genie is closer than you think. You have always had the genie at your command because the genie is You. You have either forgotten who you are or have got into bad habits. It is up to you to re-programme yourself so that you get the best out of the genie, which takes time. I'm not saying that re-programming has to take time or is the same for everyone, as our paths are unique; it's just that it's taken me a while to change my old habits and learn new ones.

Does this mean I've stopped pursuing wealth?

Hell, no!

It's just that my definition of wealth has changed. Now I know the genie within as my only true wealth, which is priceless. The genie is inexhaustible power, love and wisdom. Once you have the genie at your beck and call, you have everything.

I am the wealth I seek.
