Home Away From Home

A friend was telling me how he's easily influenced by the different energies around him. He described how he once saw this man whom he suspected was on some kind of medication for mentally ill people. He said he felt the energy of the "spirit" so strong that it "jumped" into him and he felt like he was going nuts. He said when he's with me he senses a loving presence around me. I could sense a peaceful aura around my friend. He tells me animals are drawn to that peaceful presence and want to sit on him, which he finds disconcerting.

Our conversation moved to Bruce Lee, the martial artist, and his films, which we're both into. He said he now finds the energy of violence in his films so potent that they affect him in a negative way. I told my friend that I don't have the same experience when I watch those films because I happen to love Bruce Lee's philosophy. I've even written articles that were inspired by his films.

Later I pondered over the conversation I'd had with my friend. While I take his point about the different energies that one can sense in people, places and things, I believe when you have a strong sense of who you are, you are only influenced by other energies if you choose to let them.

Having a strong sense of self is rather like being in your nice and cosy home while it's cold and damp outside. In your nice home, you feel lovely, warm and comfortable. What if you left all the windows and doors open? You're bound to feel cold. When you don't have a strong sense of who you are, you are like a house full of draft and open to all manners of thought-forms drifting in and out that may or may not be congruent with who you are.

What if you fancy going out when it's cold and damp? You'll either have to dress up warm to protect yourself from the chill, or arm yourself with the belief that you can't feel cold. Similarly, to navigate through a universe that is filled with conflicting beliefs, one needs to be armed with a strong sense of self. Then you get to be in control of what thoughts you allow in, if any.

Back in my comfy home which represents my True Self. While I appear to be all alone in my home, I'm not really alone. I'm always at one with all who are comfortable in their own homes. My oneness with the all is rather like having electricity and being connected to the entire grid. At home, I can communicate with the all in thought or in silence.

When I experience the world from a strong sense of self, I am always home away from home.
